Three people, including one student, were taken to a hospital after a collision Friday afternoon involving a Montgomery County school bus and a car on Route 97 in Howard County, according to Howard County Police.
The two drivers sustained minor injuries and were transported to the MedStar Montgomery Medical Center, in Olney, along with the student, a 16-year-old female who was not injured, police said.
According to police spokeswoman Sherry Llewellyn, at approximately 1:40 p.m. a Toyota Corolla traveling southbound on Route 97 clipped the school bus, which was traveling northbound, while attempting a left turn.
Llewellyn said the contact caused the bus to flip on its side.
Llewellyn would not specify where on Route 97 the incident occurred, but said the road will be reopened shortly.
Llewellyn said the student is transported from her home in Montgomery County to a special needs school in Baltimore.
The driver of the bus, police said, was wearing a seat belt. Police are still looking to determine if the others involved were wearing seat belts, Llewellyn said.Copyright © 2015, The Baltimore Sun
