In his Oct. 18 letter John Robinson expressed his exasperation that opponents of so-called "gay marriage" have repeated arguments that are of "a theological nature." But, this Christian-founded country gained its independence making arguments of "a theological nature." For example, the Declaration of Independence alludes to "the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God." It lists among certain self-evident truths the fact that we as human beings have unalienable rights given us by our "Creator." This founding document says the purpose of government is to secure our God-given rights. And it concludes by noting that all that it says is said with "a firm reliance on the protection of divine Providence."
