With regard to the letters concerning same-sex marriage, I offer the following.
I have been married to the same wonderful woman for 55 years and we grow ever closer: we have shared so much over our long and happy marriage.
There is so very much more to a loving, lasting marriage than the creation and nurturing of children. My wife and I know quite a few same-sex couples and their hopes and dreams are no different than ours. Some of them have children from prior heterosexual marriages, adoption, or artificial insemination of one of the partners. In every case in which there are children, the same-sex couples have provided a loving, enriching, and stable home life.
In this time of divorce, separation, and abandonment what our society needs most is stable, committed relationships: the gender of the partners is not really important. Finally, I look at the Bible's admonishment to do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
