I am outraged that there is a bill being introduced in the 2013 Maryland legislative session that will exempt Howard County residents from noise pollution protection legislation.

The Merriweather Post Pavilion frequently violates the current legal noise levels. The noise violations have a negative effect on the health and well-being of Columbia Town Center citizens in nearby residential neighborhoods. Town Center residents have been complaining to Howard County officials and as a result this legislation to exempt Howard County from noise regulations is being considered.

Instead of giving big outdoor venues legal authority to endanger our health with noise pollution, our legislators should be creating laws to improve noise pollution requirements and to make it easier to enforce the existing laws.

I am deeply disappointed that our legislators would consider sacrificing quality of life in Howard County residential neighborhoods for the convenience and profit of the Merriweather Post Pavilion. Howard County residents should not be an "exception" to current noise pollution laws. Noise pollution is bad for our health and property values.
