Tower Federal Credit Union members Kathleen Hupfeld, of Columbia; Aaron James, of Fallston; Julianna Laboy, of Odenton; and Dana Panczeno, of Ellicott City, each won $1,000 scholarship awards from the annual essay-based Scholarship Awards Program, sponsored by the Credit Union Foundation of Maryland and the District of Columbia.
This year's essay contest theme was: "How can your credit union help you and others of college age during this current economic slump?" A total of 12 scholarships were awarded.
In the last six years, 18 Tower Federal members have received scholarships from the foundation. This year, out of the nearly 300 essays received from 53 participating credit unions, 44 of the applicants were Tower Federal members.
