All five Hickory Ridge village board incumbents have been reelected to one-year terms, selections that took two rounds of voting in the Columbia village.
That second round of voting, held May 7, was made necessary because the village failed to reach a quorum of voters on the Columbia-wide April 21 election day, coming up short of its required minimum of 330 votes.
An additional four votes came in, as well as three late absentee ballots, bringing the total number of votes to 277. Under village rules, any number of new votes automatically brings the election to a quorum.
The winners were Linda Hitzelberger (241 votes), Michelle Wood (238), Miles Coffman (234), Tom Louden (227) and John Bailey (225). Challenger Robert O'Brien finished a distant sixth with 68 votes.
Bailey has been elected the board's chairman, Coffman the vice chairman.
Also, Gregg Schwind was reelected, without opposition, to another one-year term on the Columbia Association board, garnering 254 votes.Copyright © 2015, The Baltimore Sun
