More details are being revealed as Laurel and Prince George's County police continue to investigate what they believe was a murder-suicide in Laurel Sept. 14.

Police said that Javan Terrance Abney, 38, of Washington, is believed to have shot Brandice Jones, 26, multiple times in the parking lot of her residence in the 14700 block of Shiloh Court as four of Jones' children sat in her car. Witnesses told police they took the children out of the car as they waited for police to arrive. Jones was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said that about 10 minutes after shooting Jones, Abney drove behind a nursing center on Cherry Lane, stepped out of his car to sit on a bench, then shot himself in the head. Abney died on the way to the hospital, police said.

Laurel City spokesman James Collins said Jones had filed a vandalism report with Laurel Police last week, saying that Abney slashed all four of her car tires. Collins said Laurel Police received a summons for Abney and suggested to Jones that she apply for a restraining order. Collins said apparently Jones never applied for the order and police could not locate Abney for the summons because he was not living at his last-known address, the 1500 block of Isherwood Place, in Washington.

"This was apparently some type of domestic dispute," Collins said, "but we won't know until we get all the interviews complete."
