Howard County police are investigating the stabbing death of a man who was found Tuesday, Sept. 13, in the parking lot of an apartment complex in the 5500 block of Harper's Farm Road in Columbia. The man's name was being withheld upon notification of his family.
It was the second violent death in Columbia in less than 24 hours. A 42-year-old Baltimore woman was shot to death Monday night in Long Reach.
"It's unusual for us to have a homicide in Howard County, so yes, it's more unusual to have homicides back to back," police spokeswoman Sherry Llewellyn said. "We do not believe they were related in any way."
Police received a call around 4:30 p.m. that a man was bleeding in a parking lot. According to police, the caller said he was inside his apartment when he heard his car alarm go off. When he arrived at his car, he found the victim lying near it.
Police believe the victim may have activated the alarm when he collapsed to the ground.
The man was taken to Howard County General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Police said they believe there may have been a witness in the area at the time of the stabbing. They are offering a reward of up to $5,000 and asking anyone with information to call police at 410-313-7867.
