A  St. Patrick's Day sobriety checkpoint in Columbia saw four people get arrested on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol or other violations.

The checkpoint, operated by county and state police, was held from March 17 into March 18 on eastbound Route 175 at Columbia Gateway Drive. A total of 858 vehicles passed through, seven of which were pulled aside for further examination, police said.

Two drivers are facing charges of driving under the influence of alcohol. A third was arrested on a drug violation, and a fourth was charged with driving on a suspended license, police said.

The checkpoint was partially funded by a state grant.
