A second Elkridge man convicted of setting fire to a house with 11 people inside has been sentenced to 20 years in prison.
Santiago Adolpho Gonzalez-Miner, 44, of the 6300 block of Forrest Avenue, pleaded guilty in November to two counts of attempted first-degree murder.
On Tuesday, Howard County Circuit Court Judge Lenore R. Gelfman sentenced him to 10 years on each count, with the sentences to be served consecutively, according to T. Wayne Kirwan, spokesman for the county State's Attorney's Office.
Edvin Giovanni Ceron-Reyes, 24, of the same address, was sentenced Jan. 19, also to 20 years in prison, after pleading guilty to two counts of attempted first-degree murder.
Investigators believe Gonzalez-Miner had recently had an altercation with his wife — the couple was going through a divorce — and her male acquaintance, both of whom lived in a house in the 6300 block of Loudon Avenue. That house, with Gonzalez-Miner's wife, her acquaintance and nine others inside, was set ablaze on Feb. 18, 2011.
Firefighters arrived to find heavy flames and smoke. Everyone who was inside made it out alive, although one woman was critically injured. The fire caused an estimated $306,000 in damages: $302,000 to two homes and $4,000 to a vehicle.
