Sept. 21 marks the end of the 30-day warning period for Prince George's County's newly installed speed cameras. After that date, the county will issue actual citations when drivers are recorded traveling at least 12 miles per hour above the posted speed limit weekdays, from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., in designated school zones.

According to county officials, the Automated Speed Enforcement Program is intended to promote pedestrian safety, while deterring excessive speeding in the county. Montpelier Elementary, on Muirkirk Road, and Vansville Elementary, on Old Baltimore Pike, are both on the list of school areas where the county intends to place speed cameras.
