Laurel's Independence Day celebration, with a parade, car show, field games and fireworks, will be held Saturday, July 7. The city will close some roads for parts of the day to allow the parade to pass and for safety during the evening fireworks display.
Sixth Street will close at 9 a.m. when parade participants gather and line up. When the parade begins at 11 a.m., Montgomery Street will be closed from Sixth to Fourth streets, and Fourth Street will be closed from Montgomery Street to Cherry Lane.
Cherry Lane will be closed from Fourth Street to Ashford Boulevard at 6 p.m. July 7, as required by state and county fire marshals as this area is likely to receive fallout from the fireworks display at Laurel Lakes. No vehicular or pedestrian traffic will be allowed into the area until after the fireworks display is over and the area has been checked for fallout debris (approximately 11 p.m.).
City officials urged fireworks spectators to arrive early and leave by alternate routes. For more information, contact the Laurel Fourth of July Committee at 301-725-5300 ext. 2203; the Laurel Department of Public Works at 301-725-0088; or the Laurel Police at 301-498-0092.
