City officials have extended a reduction in some new business permit costs through April 30, 2014, which gives business owners an extra 12 months to take advantage of the costs break.
Filing fees for commercial building permits, use and occupancy permits and sign and banner permits for properties in the Main Street area were reduced beginning May 1, 2012. Originally set to expire April 30, 2013, the city will keep the reduced fees in place an extra year.
The Main Street area includes Main Street from First Street to Seventh Street; side streets north of Main Street from Route 1 northbound to Fourth Street; and Route 1 northbound from Montgomery Street to the Patuxent River.
The reduced fees, part of the city's Economic and Development Program, is part of city official's efforts to attract businesses to the Main Street area.
