NAMI Basics — Offered by the Howard County chapter of NAMI for parents of children and adolescents who may be experiencing behavioral and emotional challenges such as ADHD, anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, conduct disorders and post traumatic stress disorder. The course content covers the biology of mental illness, the challenges of getting an accurate diagnosis, and the latest medical research and advancements in treatment. Basics also teach parents strategies to cope with the impact of a child's illness on the rest of the family, including caring for the caregivers. The course meets weekly for six weeks.
