Lisbon/Woodbine: Child care issues front and center at Information Fair

The Howard County Department of Citizen Services, Office of Children's Services, will host its annual Preschool/Child Care Information Fair on Jan. 26 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Ten Oaks Ballroom in Clarksville.

Admission is free. However, attendees are asked to bring a nonperishable food item for donation to the Howard County Food Bank.

This fair will provide information on child care, pre-school, and summer programs. Representatives from community service organizations that offer programs and services to young children will be at the fair. The Ten Oaks Ballroom is at 5000 Signal Bell Lane.

St. Michael's Catholic Church is opening its educational wing to the public as rental space. The classrooms and multipurpose room are available for meetings, family events, exercise classes or fundraisers.

The classrooms can accommodate up to 50 people, and the multipurpose room will accommodate 250 people. The fellowship hall is also available for basket bingo fundraisers.

The Bowling Green Farms in Sykesville have received a state agriculture grant to build a storage unit and purchase new equipment for starting a cheese business.

The grant was awarded through the Maryland Agricultural and Resource-Based Industry Development Corporation's Maryland Value Added Producer Grant-Capital Assets Option Program.

This program was started in 2010 to encourage agricultural producers to expand their business operations by installing capital equipment for making a "value-based" product. The goal of the program is to support job creation and retention in rural and urban-edge communities.

Applicants must be a crop or livestock producer or processor, agricultural cooperative, seafood processor or timber products processor.

This is just a reminder that the Knights of Columbus at St. Michael's Catholic Church will hold their Breakfast with Santa on Dec. 8 from 8 to 11 a.m. The menu includes scrambled eggs, pancakes, sausage, bacon, apple sauce and beverages.

Santa will be there for pictures with the little ones. The price is $6 for adults and $3 for children ages 5-10. For more information or reservations, call 240-344-5747.

The Calvary Lutheran Church invites the public to its Christmas service in German on Dec. 15 at 4 p.m. Church members will be singing German Christmas carols, and the Christmas gospel will be in German. The brass choir will provide music.
