As always, the people in our neighborhood are ready to help those in need. With the coming of winter, the Lisbon United Methodist Church will be the venue of a coat drive sponsored by the Howard County Public School System Pupil Personnel Services.
You can bring your new or gently used coats to the church from now until Nov. 3 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. All size coats will be accepted, as well as winter accessories such as hats and gloves.
Last summer, I was outlet shopping and found a Timberline child's winter coat that was originally priced at $85 for $18. Luckily, they had a size to fit my grandson, Landon. Now, I wish I had the forethought to just buy an extra one to donate to this coat drive.
The next time you're shopping and find a bargain like that, remember that there are any number of coat drives at this time of year. The church is located right on Route 144 in the heart of Lisbon, right next to Lisbon Elementary School.
St. Michael's Catholic Church will hold its monthly breakfast on Oct. 28 from 8:30 a.m. to noon. The menu is scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, hash brown potatoes, pancakes, baked apples, biscuits, gravy, assorted quick breads and pastries, cereal, toast, bagels, English muffins, and beverages. The cost is $6 for adults and $3 for children ages 5-10.
We live in a very affluent area of Maryland; but still there are many of us who are looking for jobs, especially our recent college graduates.
The Howard County Office of Workforce Development, in partnership with the Anne Arundel Workforce Development Corporation, will host a Town Hall Information Session on Oct. 25 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Arundel High School auditorium.
This session will focus on employment opportunities at Fort Meade. It is not a job fair. Government agency and private company representatives will discuss their current and future job openings, the hiring process, and types of skills they are seeking.
Scheduled presenters include the Civilian Personnel Advisory Center, Defense Information Systems Agency, Defense Media Activity, Kimbrough Ambulatory Care Center and National Security Agency.
Advanced registration is requested as seating is limited. The school is located at 1001 Annapolis Road in Gambrills. For more information, call 410-290-2632 or go to fortmeadetownhallmeeting-eac2.eventbrite.com.Copyright © 2015, The Baltimore Sun
