The Cedar Lane School, on the Fulton Campus, occupies a unique spot in the Howard County School system.
This school offers a specialized and comprehensive educational experience for students, ages 3 through 21, whose needs fall outside the scope of the average school environment.
Students attending may be developmentally delayed or challenged; they may have multiple disabilities, physical and/or mental; or they may have behavior challenges both in school and outside settings.
This year, the school is starting with 107 students.
Paul Owns is the principal. Staff members Steve Kucey, John
Secco and Pat Brooks have retired. New on the staff are
Erin Sapperstein, elementary school teacher; Beth Baker, nurse; Hannah Tien, student assistant; Brett Schwartzbart, adapted physical education teacher; and Bernadette Mullinix, physical therapist.
Laura Kane, a parent of a Reservoir High School student and a member of the school's Music Boosters, runs a grocery card fund-raising program for the music department.
The great thing about this program is that you can help out the department by doing something that you do anyway — purchase groceries.
If you purchase the card in the name of a music student, $3 will go to the student's trip account and $2 goes into the general fund. Otherwise, the entire $5 goes into the fund.
Don't you think it's an easy way to help out? For more information, contact
Laura at 301-490-7169 or via email at email@example.com.
Don't forget to stop by the yard sale at St. Francis Catholic Church this Saturday, Sept. 8. It's from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. in the parking lot.
Not only can you still reserve a spot for your own treasures (two spaces for $20), the church ladies will have a couple tables where they will be offering donated items for sale.
My wife Jennie and I will be celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary on Sept. 11. Happy anniversary, Jennie!
It is also the 11th anniversary of the terrorist attack on the U.S. Never forget. I won't.
That's all for this week. Keep sending me those emails and
phoning me up. I love hearing from you.
