Ninth Annual Hear My Voice Teen Idol Competition — Sponsored by the Columbia Teen Center. Holding three Round One auditions. Regional winners will advance to the semi-finals, where 10 finalists will be selected to compete at the Hear My Voice Teen Idol Competition. All Columbia Teen Idol finalists must agree to participate in the Hear My Voice community service project, which will focus on anti-bullying. Rising Star Award Competition Call for Applicants — Hosted by the Howard County Arts Council. Open to individual performers, ages 18-35, who live, train, work, or perform regularly in Howard County or have done so in the past. Up to ten selected finalists will perform at the Arts Council's annual benefit gala, Celebration of the Arts in Howard County. The event audience will then vote for their favorite performer. 2011 Volunteer of the Year Call for Nominees — Howard County Executive Ken Ulman and members of the County Council are seeking nominees for the 2011 Volunteer of the Year awards program, which recognizes individuals (youth and adults), nonprofit groups and agencies, or businesses that have demonstrated commitment and dedication to the community. Nominees must be either residents of Howard County or do their volunteer work in Howard County, and their efforts should have an impact on an individual or the community. ARTsites 2012 Call for Artists — Sponsored by the Howard County Arts Council. Seeking artists with large-scale sculpture that is fit for year-long outdoor display. Artists with public art experience may submit up to six existing works for consideration, or propose new work with proper concept drawings and/or models. Sculpture should have a strong visual impact and must be of a scale suitable for outdoor display; of sound design, free-standing, and suitable for public viewing; and able to withstand an outdoor, high-traffic, unmonitored environment with no or little maintenance. Selected artists will receive a grant of $2,000 for the temporary loan of the work, insurance, installation and de-installation. No fee to enter. ARTsites 2012 Call for Sites — Sponsored by the Howard County Arts Council. Seeking publicly-accessible outdoor areas in Howard County to display sculpture. All community, commercial and public sites in Howard County are eligible to apply. Sites must be visible and accessible to the public. Sites should consider that public art should be placed where it will enhance and activate the space; where it will be highly visible; where it will create a place to congregate, or be in a location that experiences a high amount of pedestrian traffic; and where it will not block windows, entranceways, etc. Preference will be given to sites that have, or are willing to install at their own expense, a concrete pad for the sculpture, though some sculpture may be appropriate for lawn sites.
