The Women's Giving Circle of Howard County has awarded $23,650 in grants to local organizations.
Journey, a summer residential camp founded by the organization and operated by Maryland Leadership Workshops, was awarded $14,000 to provide 26 eighth- and ninth-grade girls a week-long camp at Washington College, inChestertown.
Leadership U was awarded $550 for scholarships for a four-month team building and leadership development program.
Girls on the Run, a program designed to prepare elementary and middle school girls for a life of healthy living, was awarded $1,800.
Non-profits Bridges to Housing Stability, Community Action Council, Domestic Violence Center, Family and Children's Services, Howard County General Hospital for the Healthy Families Program, FIRN and Grassroots Crisis Intervention Center were each awarded $800 in emergency grants, to be used for the financial emergencies of the women and girls they serve.
Additionally, the Women's Giving Circle added $2,500 to its scholarship fund atHoward Community College.
The Women's Giving Circle is a group of female philanthropists in the county. Founded in 2002, the organization has more than 900 donors and has pledged more than $900,000 to its fund with the Columbia Foundation.
