Howard County Department of Fire & Rescue crews encountered heavy smoke and fire when they arrived shortly after 7 p.m. Tuesday at a house in the 6300 block of Scarlet Petal in Columbia. The fire remains under investigation. Initial damages were estimated by fire officials at $150,000.

Three Columbia residents were displaced after a two-alarm fire ripped through their home in Owen Brown Tuesday night.
Shortly after 7 p.m., crews from the Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Service arrived at the home in the 6300 block of Scarlet Petal in the Dasher Green neighborhood, where it took 50 firefighters a half-hour to extinguish the blaze.
One woman was home when the fire started, but was able to escape without any injuries. She and the other two residents of the house were displaced, and are being assisted by the American Red Cross.
Fire officials estimated about $150,000 in initial damages. The fire remains under investigation.
