As always, Howard County has come up with another great idea. Howard County residents will be able to participate in community-supported agriculture programs (CSA) at six local farms.
CSA allows a group of individuals to support local farms by purchasing shares during the harvest season. Once harvest begins, consumers will receive weekly shares including vegetables, fruits, herbs, cut flowers, honey, eggs, dairy products, baked goods and meats.
To find a farm that is close to your home and meets your dietary needs, go to each farm's website as follows:
•Breezy Willow Farm, 12960 Old Frederick Road, in West Friendship, http://www.breezywillowfarm.com
•Gorman Produce Farm, 10151 Gorman Road in Laurel, http://www.gormanproducefarm.com
•Love Dove Farm, http://www.lovedovefarms.com
•Norman's Farm Market, http://www.normansfarmmarket.com
•Roundabout Hills Market Garden, 15505 Cattail Oaks in Glenwood, http://www.localharvest.com

I'd like to give a "shout out" and many thanks to three of our neighbors.
Doris Donaldson, Gayle Carter and Puzz Brightwell have delivered Meals On Wheels in Western Howard County for the past 10 years. It's wonderful to hear that we have such devoted neighbors who care about our elderly and shut-ins.
If you would like to volunteer to deliver meals or would like to benefit from this service, call 1-877-857-4447.
Here's another example of Howard County's innovation. Rockburn Skills Park recently opened.
This park is the first multi-use trail system on the East Coast for families to enjoy riding bicycles in a safe location. Features include the following:
•Pump track, a low-risk circuit for new bicycle riders and children
•Flow trail, an easy trail with small rollers and berms
•Descending trail, a technical descending trail
•Rock-armored climbing trail, a steep, challenging climb
•Uphill return trail, which takes riders to the top
The park encompasses 450 acres with 7.4 miles of scenic trails, athletic fields, tennis courts, basketball courts, playgrounds, an 18-hole disc golf course and picnic pavilions.
The park was developed in collaboration with the Department of Recreation and Parks, the Mid-Atlantic Off-Road Enthusiasts and the International Mountain Bicycling Association.
This sounds like the perfect place to plan a family outing. For more information, go to http://www.rockburnskillspark.org.
The Bridges to Housing Stability organization is looking for on-call movers and volunteers to turn over properties to help homeless or near-homeless families.
The type of work needed includes painting, cleaning, home repairs, and moving. They would also love help from anyone with a truck.
