Art Boone and John Frank are ready to make some music. Both of these West Friendship mainstays are signature performers each year at the Howard County Fair.
Southwest Blue Grass hits the stage at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 9 and Lone Mountain performs on Aug. 10 at 7:30 p.m. Both bands will perform at the Main Gate Stage.
Local singer Richie Fields will perform on Aug. 10 at the Entertainment Stage. The Amateur Variety Talent Show is scheduled for Aug. 9 at 7 p,.m. at the Main Exhibition Hall Stage.
Crowd pleasers such as the Parade of Floats and the Baby Contest Miniature Parade will both be held on Aug. 11. As in all years, "See you at the Fair."

Visit the West Friendship Volunteer Fire Department booths during the 67th annual Howard County Fair, which continues through Aug. 11. The members of Station 3 will be out in force during the fair and welcome you to "stop by".
Just a reminder. Plans are in the works for the Glenelg High School Class of 1972 40th Reunion. The date for the event is Sept. 29 and the place is the Circle D Farm in Woodbine.
Ann Jones is part of the planning committee, whose main goal right now is to get the word out. Fellow organizers include Steven Appler, Brian Crawford, John and Virginia Frank, Vicki Jones Kliever, Joanne Martin, Rodney Mullinix, Ed and Marie Rapp, Steven Ralston, Eileen Tsonis and Gorden Weddle.
According to Ann Jones, the committee meetings have been like mini reunions with so many alumni participating. Now is time to spread the word to anyone who know someone who graduated in 1972.

Ten days left to bring in school supplies to the Curves at 3900 Ten Oaks Road in Glenelg. Suzy Hill has a collection bin for any who wish to donate No. 2 pencils, marble composition books, 12-inch rulers, crayons, sticky notes, colored pencils, 2-inch three ring binders, pink erasers or any manner of school supplies.
The items will be donated to Howard County school children in need. The school supply drive will continue through Aug. 19.
If you missed the horse action at the Howard County Fair have no fear. Come out to the Howard County fairgrounds on Aug. 12 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. to view some fabulous equestrian maneuvers.
The Maryland Western Horse Association will host another show that is family friendly in every way. Association board member Becky Novotny of West Friendship wishes more area folks were aware of all the Western and English horse riding events that are available for local spectators.
The show begins in the morning and continues through the afternoon with barrel events, speed classes, Western and English classes, cake walk, jumping events, pony ring sessions, young toddlers being led by their parents during lead line competitions and more.
All this horsing around takes place at the Howard County fairgrounds where there is plenty of free parking. Novotny notes that food is available and the event is great for spectators of all ages. Pony or horse owners are welcome to bring their animal for the varied competitions.
The Maryland Western Horse Association exists to promote good sportsmanship and horsemanship among owners and exhibitors. Summer horse shows will also be held at the Howard County fairgrounds on Aug. 12 , and Sept. 9 and 23.
