Lisbon/Woodbine: Lisbon needs a fair and it gets one June 30

This is just a reminder that the second annual Lisbon Community Fair will be held on June 30 at the Lisbon Park from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Come for the yard sale, moon bounce, auction, tack sale, food and vendors.

The event will benefit the Gentle Giants Draft Horse Rescue and Days End Farm Horse Rescue.

Congratulations go to Tiffany Lee, a fifth grade student at Manor Woods Elementary School, who won first honors for the Howard County Bird Club's Student Art Contest. Tiffany's winning picture was of a beautiful cardinal.

Kruti Patel of Patapsco Middle School won in the middle school category for her picture of a goldfinch.

Both students will receive backpacks containing Eagle Optics binoculars and field guides. A special thank you goes to Holly Highfill, who judged the contest. She was instrumental in the design and execution of the art work at the Robinson Nature Center.

The Howard County Department of Citizen Services' Office of Children's Services will be holding a workshop for parents entitled, "Will You Be My Friend?"

This discussion will focus on helping children to build friendship skills. The workshop will be held on Aug. 7 from 6:30 to 8:0 p.m. at the East Columbia 50+ Center, which is inside the East Columbia Library.

Martha Clark's family has been farming in Howard County since 1797. To celebrate the Clark family's agricultural roots, the Clark's Elioak Farm will be the site for Howard County's third annual Film Feastival on July 17 from 6 to 9 p.m.

This is a celebration of the local food movement in Howard County, highlighting the connection between county farms, restaurants, food producers and the community.

There will be a delicious array of food samples prepared by several local restaurants including Aida Bistro and Wine Bar, Eggspectation, the Mango Grove, Bistro Blanc, the Town Grill at Lisbon, Baldwin's Station and the Woodstock Inn.

The feature of the evening will be a screening of the documentary, "American Meal."

The cost of the event is $5 with proceeds going toward Farmers' Market coupons redeemable for free fresh fruits and vegetables for Howard County families in need through the WiC program and the Howard County Food Bank. For more information, call 410-313-2707.

The Poplar Springs United Methodist Church will be hosting a free community Fourth of July picnic on July 7 at 6 p.m. The picnic will feature the music of the Browningsville Band. There will be free food and a moon bounce.

St. Andrew's Episcopal Church will be holding its monthly Feast on June 28 from 6 to 8 p.m. The menu this month will be Mexican.

The cost is $9 for adults, $30 for a family. Children 5 and younger are free. As always, the Feast will be catered by Smokin' Hot Bar and Grille.

Proceeds will go to benefit 30 missioners going to the Appalachian Mountains in Kentucky to serve the people in that region. The church is located at 2892 Route 97 in Glenwood. For more information, call 410-442-5445.
