If you are looking for a family activity, you might want to go to the winter concert put on by the Lime Kiln Middle School orchestra. It takes place in the school auditorium on Dec. 13 at 7 p.m.

For more information, give the school a ring at 410-880-5988. The students of the week for the week ending Nov. 16 are Kenneth Stargel, Ashley Rothermel, Casey Abell, Sabrina Lagomarsino, and Raquel Thomas.

Don't forget Breakfast with St. Nick at Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Laurel on Dec. 15 from 8 to 11 a.m.

There will also be a cookie sale with all proceeds to benefit Mason's Mission Team. Mason is a 9-year-old who has had pneumonia 45 times. Call the church office for more information at 301-725-5200.

Several Reservoir High School music students were selected for All State Music Honors. Wyeth Aleksei was named Second Chair in the Senior All State Orchestra. Wesley Kane was named Second Chair in the Senior All State Band. Kayla Krammes earned Junior All State Orchestra honors. Congratulations to each of them and also to their teachers, Colin O'Bryan and Matt Dubbs. Well done.

Time is the one thing that we all are given that we can't make more of. Sure, there are "time-saving devices" or "daylight savings time" but really, we can't bank that "saved time" for some "time" in the future.

Now, with this said, do you have any spare time, time that you can invest in the lives of others who are in need?

Neighbor Ride, one of premier volunteer-based service organizations in the county, is looking for drivers. The goal of Neighbor Ride is to decrease isolation and improve the quality of life for Howard County's older residents.

By becoming a volunteer driver, you will help our seniors remain active and independent by providing rides for medical appointments, shopping, social outings, fitness activities, religious services, volunteer commitments and other day-to-day needs.

You can pretty much set your own schedule and it's a great way to involve your children in an intergenerational experience. The need is great. Do you have any spare time? Contact Rosemary Noble or Patrice Cerwonka at 410-884-RIDE or volunteer@neighborride.org for more information about volunteering.

Wow, only 11 shopping days until Christmas! Remember our military members who are standing the watch. Send up a prayer for them and their families.
