It seems hard to believe, but after months of planning, the 2013 Relay for Life of Western Howard County is just around the corner.

On June 7, the entire community is invited to join in a free, fun-filled overnight event designed to celebrate cancer survivorship and raise money for the American Cancer Society. The event will be held at the Western Regional Park in Glenwood. Opening ceremonies begin at 6:30 p.m.

Relay for Life is a non-competitive overnight walk-a-thon charity event benefiting the American Cancer Society. In 2012, Western Howard County Relay raised over $84,000. This year's event currently has 16 teams, including 149 individuals, signed up to participate.

There will be one final planning meeting on June 4 at the Gary J. Arthur Community Center in Glenwood at 7 pm. For more information, go to http://www.relayforlife.org/westernhoward on the web or contact the Relay Committee 410-781-4316 or on email jenny.hogg@cancer.org.

Members of the Glenwood Middle School Leo Club are happy to report that they completed another successful bike drive at the beginning of May. This year's event collected 113 bikes for Bikes for the World.

The students thank all those who made a donation, and remind the community to please keep the bike drive in mind as you clean out garages and basements — there will be another bike drive next May.

The emphasis is on developing important fundamentals through many activities, challenging games, and small-sided scrimmages. The minimum player-to-player ratio is 10 to 1, and all participants will be grouped according to age and ability. All camps will be instructed by Glenelg High School Coaching staff.

The camps are limited to 2013 5th-8th graders (incoming 6th-9th graders for the school year 2013-2014). The cost is $150 per camp per session. All camps run Monday through Friday, one week.
