The morning of April 21 dawned crisp and cool, feeling more like a February morning instead of spring.
That did not stop the more than 300 participants who came out to take part in the first Triadelphia Ridge Elementary School PTA Retriever Run 5K/Fun Run, which combined a profitable PTA fundraiser with a fun fitness event.
The younger runners kicked off the morning by running a one-mile Fun Run course around the grassy area behind the school. The male winner of the run was third-grader Noah Hanson. The female winner was first-grader Ava Hernandez.
Next up were older students and adults, who took part in the 5K (3.1 mile) run or walk through streets that neighbor the school campus. Results of the 5K race include overall male winner Luis Navarro and overall female winner Joan Zakel.
Age-group winners included age 9 and under, Sarantis Markaris and Joelle Becker; age 10 to 12, Evan Ying and Ana Lesho; age 13 to 15, Ryan Romanik-Romano and Rebecca Romanik-Romano; age 16 to 19, Jason Schuler and Kelly Maloney; age 20 to 29, Mark Worley and Nicole Mele; age 30 to 39, Mark Corriere and Tara Held; age 40 to 49, Paul Morris and Linglei Ma; age 50 to 59, Greg Schuler and Diana Meacham; and over 60, Anthony Hamilton and Linda Schnell.
Congratulations to all for completing this event while supporting Triadelphia Ridge Elementary.
Congratulations to Carolyn Estella Mech, of Dayton, who, on April 24, was admitted to the Bar of the U.S. Supreme Court.
Not too long ago, I shared news of local students who entered pieces in the PTA Reflections Art Contest, including news of winners at both the school and county level.
I recently received word that two Glenelg High School students were awarded at the Maryland state level for their entries. Congratulations to Stephanie Asher for winning an Award of Merit for Photography and to Sara Hart for earning an Award of Merit for Dance Choreography.
