Congratulations to River Hill senior Evangeline Chandran on being named a semifinalist in Siemens' prestigious STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) competition.
Evangeline submitted a paper entitled, "A novel cellular signaling mechanism: Acetylation Mediated Regulation of Inositol Hexakisphosphate Kinase-1."
Most of us would have difficulty saying that and certainly can't explain her research. Way to go, girl.
The local activity calendar is filled with possibilities in the near future. Don't miss out.
The River Hill High School Theatre Arts cast and crew of over 60 is presenting William Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream" in the auditorium Nov. 1, 2 and 3 at 7 p.m. and Nov. 4 at 2 p.m.

It's a great show.

After the first round of SPHERES competition River Hill's Zero Robotics team, Team Rocket, was in first place and they're looking for a repeat win at MIT. The team is led by computer science teacher Anne Contney. Students on the team are Nick Ascoli, Zaid Ashai, Stephen Chen, Angelica Dayhoff, Brian Fitzgerald, Abhiroop Gangopadhyay, Chloe Garrison, Josh Goldberg, David Hessler, Josh Lien, Salim Manseur, Brennan Marsh Armstrong, Bernard McNamee, Bryce Reynolds, Holden Smith, Kamran Tak, Vir Thakor, Seth Tribbey, Aria Yom, and Brian Zhu. Good luck.
Do you have a no-longer-used 35 mm single lens reflex camera or darkroom equipment stashed away in the attic, basement or wherever? Do you need that dust collector? Photography students at River Hill need it.
In addition to modern digital photography, they learn to use and process film. Check with your relatives and neighbors. You might be surprised at how many dust collectors you'll discover. Drop them off at the front office at the school or contact Jacob_cecil@hcpss.org for pick up or more information.
