Devin Smith, an eighth grader at Hammond Middle School, competed at the Maryland All-State Junior High Band concert held February 25, at Morgan State University's Murphy Fine Arts Center. Devon plays percussions and did very well. He scored fifth highest in the state and earned placement in the outstanding band! Great job, Devin.
Hammond Middle raised money for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital by holding its annual Math-A-Thon. The students raised a whopping $9,624.85. Over the years, the students have raised an amazing $199,821.90 in support of St. Jude's. What a great lesson to teach the students about kids helping kids.
Atholton High's National Art Society has found a very creative way to raise funds for Grassroots Crisis Intervention Center. They are hosting Empty Bowls event March 28 from 5 to 7 p.m. For $10, you get a bowl of homemade soup, bread and a bowl, handmade by the students. No reservations are required.
