Greg grew up in North Laurel and graduated from Reservoir High School. He is known for the shirts he wears, mostly supporting local teams like the Orioles, which is what he was wearing when he won. His parents and many of his friends were in the audience.
The Reservoir High School's Gator Academy will be offering free tutoring to any Reservoir student on Nov. 11 at the North Laurel Community Center. Sessions start at 2 and end at 4 p.m.
Students are to bring all materials for their classes and a signed permission slip. Volunteer tutors are always welcome.

The Savage Historical Society will hold its monthly meeting on Nov. 19 at 7 p.m. in the Faith and Ministry Center at 9032 Baltimore St. The entrance is on the side.

The North Laurel Civic Association will hold its monthly meeting on Nov. 15 at 7 p.m. at the North Laurel Community Center. This meeting will be very informative, so plan on attending.
The association has altered its bylaws to be more representative of the community and will be voting on them, as well as updating everyone on all the new developments that are being planned for the area.
The association is also taking nominations for officers and making plans for activities and meetings for 2013. This is a great time to get involved. The association is always looking for new members to get involved so join today. If you do not support your community, who will?
Hammond Elementary School is collecting food pantry donations for LARS, Laurel Advocacy and Referral Services. Each month they are collecting different items for LARS, but canned goods are always welcome.
Check with the school to find out what they are focusing on for the month. What a great way to support those in need and to teach our children about helping others.
Congratulations to the Girls Cross Country Team at Reservoir High School on becoming County Champions. The Boys Team deserves congratulations as well for placing second in the county.
The PTA Council of Howard County is giving away winter coats, hats and gloves all around the county. This winter could be a very cold one so make sure everyone is well covered. They will be at the North Laurel Community Center on Nov. 17, 9 a.m. to noon.
