Swimming: HdG moves to 15-1; CMW dominant in tri-meet

In Wednesday's tri-meet with the Fallston and Edgewood teams at Magnolia Middle, the Havre de Grace Warriors boys and girls swim squads combined for two overall victories, topping the Cougars, 109-79, and Rams, 152-36.

Fallston came out on top of its matchup with Edgewood, 133-52.

With the pair of wins, Havre de Grace improved to 15-1 overall.

"This the is the best combined start we've ever had," Warrior coach Aaron Thompson said after Wednesday's meet. "There's been seasons where the boys team went undefeated, but we haven't had the boys and girls team doing this well together. The only other season close to this was 2005, when we were 13-2 at this point. If everything goes well, we'll finish up with a 20-1 record. Our goal is a 20-1 finish, which would be our best ever."

The Warrior girls were led by two swimmers with two individual victories: Allissa Lyons grabbed first-place finishes in the girls 500-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke, while teammate Carrie Amato won the girls 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard freestyle.

Alyssa Smith took top honors in the girls 200-yard freestyle for Havre de Grace, while the Warriors' Robbie Orzewicz won the boys 100-yard breaststroke. Havre de Grace's final individual victory of the night came from Brianna Clark, who won the girls 100-yard breaststroke.

Havre de Grace swept the 200-yard medley relays, with the team of Lyons, Smith, Amato and Clarke winning the girls event, while Chris Worrell, Hunter Infeld, Renz Amato and Orzewicz took first in the boys race.

Worrell, Orzewicz, Steven Ashman and Renz Amato teamed up to win the 200-yard freestyle relay, while Lyons, Smith, Abigail Blessing and Carrie Amato won the girls 400-yard freestyle relay.

Fallston's Grant Burgees won the boys 200-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly, while teammate Madison Brown took first-place finishes in the girls 100-yard butterfly and 200-yard medley events.

Austin Appel won the boys 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle events for Fallston, while fellow Cougar Sam Burgess won the boys 500-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke. Fallston's Ryan Hutchens won the boys 200-yard medley race.

The Fallston girls team of Brown, Sarah Roesner, Devon Howell and Danielle Sacker won the 200-yard freestyle relay, while Grant Burgess, Sam Burgess, Appel and Andrew Lagan took first in the boys 400-yard freestyle relay.

Mustangs drop Joppa, Bel Air

The C. Milton Wright Mustangs cruised to a pair of victories at a Tuesday night tri-meet, beating Joppatowne, 156-31, and Bel Air, 153-35, at Magnolia Middle School.

Bel Air topped Joppatowne, 126-61.

The Mustangs had three swimmers with a pair of individual victories. Danielle King won the girls 200-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly. Colin Hildebeidel grabbed first-place finishes in the boys 200-yard medley and 100-yard breaststroke, while fellow Mustang boys squad member Kyle Paxton topped the field in the 500-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly.

CMW's Bernie Chang won the boys 200-yard freestyle, Emily Jordan topped the field in the girls 200-yard medley and Darren Slotnick finished first in the boys 50-yard freestyle. Katie Gallagher placed first in the girls 50-yard freestyle for the Mustangs and Ian Kearney took first in the boys 100-yard freestyle.

The Mustangs' Rachel Flint finished first in the girls 100-yard freestyle, as did Lindsey Jackson in the girls 500-yard freestyle, beating the second-place finisher by more than 20 seconds. Ryan Pellegrino earned CMW a victory in the boys 100-yard backstroke, while teammate Taylor Nesbit took top honors in the girls 100-yard backstroke. CMW's final individual victory of the night came from Monica Youn, who took first in the girls 100-yard breaststroke.

Change, Paxton, Slotnick and Tyler Dellaratta won the boys 200-yard medley relay, while Flint, Jordan, Gallagher and Ida Erdhardt took first in the girls 200-yard medley relay.

The boys 200-yard freestyle relay was won by the CMW team of Dellaratta, Pellegrino, Kearney and Andrew Youn. Flint, Erika Abshire, Monica Youn and Brittany Minsky placed first in the girls 200-yard freestyle relay.

Dellaratta, Kearney, Slotnick and Andrew Youn teamed up in the final boys event of the night to win the 400-yard freestyle relay, while the girls 400-yard freestyle relay was won by the team of King, Flint, Minsky and Lindsey Jackson.
