On Monday, for just the third time in the last six seasons, the C. Milton Wright softball team suffered a 10-run mercy-rule loss, as the visiting Mustangs were dispatched, 11-1, by host Broadneck.
"It is difficult to know what to say about today's game at Broadneck," CMW head coach Russell Kovach said. "Since 2007, the only mercy-rule losses sustained by the Mustangs were in 2008, against nationally-ranked Caravel Academy, and at the 2010 state championship game against the nationally-ranked Northern Patriots."
The game Monday was halted after the sixth, as Broadneck, leading 7-1 heading into the home half of the inning, scored four runs to go ahead by 10.
CMW put the leadoff runner on base in five out of six innings, but could muster only one run in the sixth.
CMW's Emily Luzetsky was 2-for-2 with a double and scored her team's lone run, while Jordan Pross was 1-for-3 with an RBI double.
