In Sunday pool play action at the Ripken World Series in Aberdeen, the Southeast team from Jupiter, Fla., topped the Harford County squad, 10-6, at Cal Sr.'s Yard.
Reese Albert led the winning side's offense, going 1-for-4 with a three-run double.
Sean Maletzke got the pitching win, going three innings in which he struck out five, walked three and allowed two earned runs on two hits.
Jake Johnson had a team-best two RBIs for the Harford County team from Forest Hill, while Logan Barnes went 1-for-4 with one RBI in the loss.
Middle Atlantic tops Ohio Valley
Playing at Cal Sr.'s Yard in the second day of pool play Sunday, the Middle Atlantic squad from Bronx, NY., topped the Ohio Valley team of Mattoon, Ill., 11-2.
The Bronx squad was led by Joshua Russo, who went 2-for-2 with two doubles, two RBIs and one run. Jason Manuel Pineda went 2-for-4 and scored three of the winning side's runs, while teammate Jimmy Abreu was 1-for-2 with a pair of RBIs and one run.
Garrette Branson and Dalton Armes both had one hit and one RBI for Mattoon.
Getting the win was Bronx's starter Abreu, who tossed four innings in which he struck out three and walked three, and held Mattoon to one earned run on three hits.Copyright © 2015, The Baltimore Sun
