In their Saturday night road tilt with the State College Spikes, the Aberdeen IronBirds suffered a 3-2 loss.
With the score tied, 2-2, in the bottom of the ninth, the Spikes rallied for the game-winning run.
Leading Aberdeen at the plate was Lucas Herbst, who went 1-for-3 with a double, one RBI and one run scored.
Aberdeen starter Adrian Sampson went five innings in which he allowed no earned runs, held the Spikes to three hits, struck out five and walked one. Taking the loss was reliever Jason McCracken, who allowed one unearned run on one hit in two-thirds of an inning.
With the defeat, Aberdeen fell to 18-28 on the season. The IronBirds will play the Spikes again Sunday in State College.Copyright © 2015, The Baltimore Sun
