The Havre de Grace Warriors snapped their five-game losing streak to start the 2012 varsity football season, shutting out the host Joppatowne Mariners, 32-0, Monday night in UCBAC Susquehanna Division action.
The game, the Mariners' Homecoming Game, was postponed Friday when Joppatowne High School was closed earlier that morning because of a power outage.
The Warriors (1-2, 1-5) jumped on top with 13 first quarter points. A Lavell McCullers interception on Joppatowne's first offensive play turned into seven Havre de Grace points. Jahmee Ballard did the honors on a 16-yard run and Geno Nappi added the extra-point.
Shawn Cardwell added a eight-yard touchdown run later in the quarter for the 13-0 lead.
Havre de Grace scored one time in the second quarter on a McCullers one-yard run and Nappi's second extra-point kick.
The Warriors final 12 points were scored in the third quarter. Cardwell raced 53 yards for his second touchdown of the night, while McCullers also added his second touchdown run of the night on a 38-yard run.
Ballard finished with 90 yards on 10 carries and Cardwell had 72 yards on four carries. McCullers added 57 yards on four carries and Cameron Doe had 55 yards on 10 carries.
Justin Norman led Joppatowne (0-3, 1-5) with 101 yards on 11 carries.
Antony Smith led the Warriors defense with 13 tackles. Connor Donaldson (two tackles for loss), James Stout (one tackle for loss), Jahre Jordan and Kyle Gorham each had eight tackles and Ballard added a fumble recovery.
