In a battle for first place in the conference, the No. 25 Harford Community College women's basketball team (14-1, 5-1 MD JUCO) dominated previously undefeated Chesapeake (9-1, 5-1 MD JUCO) on the road Monday, in a 70-47 win.
The Fighting Owls led by just four at the break and turned it into a laugher after intermission, holding the Skipjacks to 32 points below their season average.
Led by a pair of double-doubles and three different players with double-digit rebound totals, the Fighting Owls cleaned up on the glass, holding a 45-33 advantage. The nation's leading scorer, Capree Garner, led all players with 25 points and 13 rebounds while Tiffany Taylor tallied 24 points and 10 caroms.
Na'Kya Keitt had 12 rebounds and eight markers, while Kourtney Orr parked in the lane and came away with seven rebounds. Shelby Key had 10 points and seven assists in the win.
The Fighting Owls continued a recent trend of steady shooting from the free throw line. Harford connected on 23 of 25 freebies, marking the second time in three games with a shooting percentage over 90 percent.
The Fighting Owls victory over the reigning MD JUCO Tournament Champions on Chesapeake's home floor marks the biggest win of the season for the first-place squad.
