The Joppatowne Mariners started the 2012 Harford County high school girls lacrosse season in fine fashion Wednesday with a big win over visiting Dundalk.
C. Milton Wright edged Winters Mill in overtime; however, Edgewood and Fallston didn't fare nearly as well on the first day of a new season.
Joppatowne began the girls lacrosse season in high style on Wednesday, thrashing the visiting Dundalk squad, 19-0.
Christina Miller led the Mariners, who had a 13-0 halftime lead, scoring six times and dishing out four assists. Emma McDowell helped the winning cause with four goals and one assist. Kari Ehinger had two goals and one assist. Cara Chisholm scored twice, while Emily Murphy and Katelyn Fabi each had a goal and an assist. Julie Sands, Samantha Soul and Jess Marx each scored once for the Mariners. Lindsay Rizzi and Leanna Pecorino each had an assist.
In goal for the Mariners, Felicia Okoye had two saves and Jamie Bell had one.
Patriots edge Maryvale
The John Carroll girls squad won by a goal on Wednesday, defeating the visiting Maryvale Prep team, 14-13.
Erica Bodt scored six goals to pace the Patriots, while Meredith Haggerty netted three goals. MacKenzie Reese and Caroline Haggerty both had a pair of tallies in the victory, while Grace Richards supplied one goal. Caroline Haggerty had a team-high two assists.
In goal for John Carroll, Alexa DiPeso had six saves.
C. Milton Wright wins in OT
The visiting C. Milton Wright Mustangs won, 11-10, in overtime Wednesday afternoon over Winters Mill.
Abby Smucker led the Mustang offense with four goals, while Brooke Willams, Katie Gallagher and Maggie Gallagher all scored twice in the loss. Lauren Haggerty had one goal for the Mustangs. Katie Gallagher had two assists.

The Fallston Cougars were beaten in their season opener, 8-6, by Hereford girls.
Sam Nolan scored a hat trick to lead the Cougars. Christina Wright had two goals in the loss. Katie Mozingo had a goal. Nolan led the Cougars in assists with two.
The Edgewood Rams were beaten, 18-8, Wednesday by Reservoir.
Caitlin Rankin had three goals for the Rams. Cynthia Ford, Ladea Boykin, Kara Andrews, Alyssa Rankin and Natalee Olah each scored once.
Patterson Mill began its girls lacrosse season with a loss, as the Huskies were beaten, 20-12, but the visiting Dulaney Lions on Wednesday.
The Huskies trailed, 12-4, after two quarters of play.
Emily Keesling scored four times and dished out two assists in the loss, while teammate Sam Herman posted three goals and one assist. Brittany Cudmore came through with two goals and a pair of assists, while fellow Husky Sam Boys scored a hat trick. Brittie Andrews handed out one assists for Patterson Mill.
In goal for the Huskies, Erin Dent saved eight shots.
Harford Tech over Aberdeen
Harford Tech won at home on Wednesday, dispatching the visiting Aberdeen girls lacrosse squad, 13-5.
Gabby Spalt led the Cobras with a four-goal, three-assist performance, while Becca Williams came through with a hat-trick in the victory. Rachael Raspe and Megan Campbell both had two goals in the win, while Alex Blanco and Marisa Braungart each scored once. Morgan Grannas had a pair of assists, while Jordy Testerman and Haley Knotts Each had one assist.
