North Harford battled back from a 21-point deficit in the third quarter of Saturday's 3A North football semifinal to cut Milford Mill's lead to four, but that was as close as the Hawks could get in a 47-30 loss to the Millers.

After the Millers posted two touchdowns in the first quarter to go up, 12-0, North Harford got a 10-yard touchdown scramble from quarterback Nic Hammer.

Two more Milford Mill TDs in the second and third quarters gave the Millers a 27-6 advantage.

With 7:47 left in the third quarter, North Harford's Hammer scored again, this time on a four-yard quarterback keeper and Josh Welsh carried the ball in on the two-point play to make the score, 27-14.

The Hawks were trailing, 34-14, when they got a score from Scott Angstadt who sprinted into the end zone from 10 yards out. Hammer scrambled across the line for two points, and the Hawks were within two scores, 34-22.

After intercepting a pass in their own end zone to kill the Millers next possession, the Hawks scored again, with Hammer notching this third touchdown of the day on a nine-yard run. On the two-point play, Hammer found the end zone again, putting the Hawks just four behind, 34-30.

The Millers, however, came through with two fourth-quarter touchdowns to seal the victory and end the season for the Hawks, the only Harford County public school team to qualify for post-season play this year.

Hammer led the Hawks in rushing with 152 yards on 21 carries, and completed eight of 22 passes for 88 yards.

Eric Bayer had 50 yards on nine carries in the loss, while Angstadt had 33 yards on six carries.

Brian Davis led the Hawks' receiving corps, grabbing two passes for 27 yards.

North Harford finished the season with an 8-3 record.
