Tyler Norcross had 29 points and 12 rebounds in the loss, while teammate Chris Murdock came through with 14 points. Bel Air's Juwan Singletary had nine points and seven rebounds.

The Bobcats earned a 78-62, opening-round win over Manchester Valley at the North Carroll tournament on Thursday.

The Bobcats led, 19-14, after the first quarter, and were up, 42-26, at halftime.

Norcross had a 31-point, 14-rebound performance in the victory, Chris Murdock had 14 points. Singletary had 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Pats fall splits in Virginia

The John Carroll Patriots came up just short in their Friday-night engagement at the St. Benedictine Capital City Classic in Richmond, Va., losing to the host team, 66-62.

John Carroll trailed by 12 points at halftime.

The Patriots' Rodney Elliott and Kimbal Mackenzie combined to score 45 points in the loss. Down low, John Carroll was led by Mike Owona, Lionel Owona and Michael Tertsea, who combined for 15 rebounds. Tertsea led the Patriots in blocked shots with three.

On Thursday, the Patriots opened up the tournament with a 47-45 victory over the Douglas Freeman squad.

The Patriots' two-point margin of victory was attained at the very beginning of the game, as the Douglas Freeman side was called for a technical foul prior to the opening tipoff. John Carroll's Jordan Martin knocked down both of the ensuing free-throws. Martin ended the contest with eight points, two rebounds and one assist.

Elliott had 11 points, five rebounds, three assists and one steal in the victory, while Mackenzie posted 18 points, two assists, one rebound and one steal. Tertsea blocked five shots, pulled down five rebounds and scored four points, while Mike Owona came through with five rebounds, one block, one assist and one point. Lionel Owona scored four points and had two rebounds.

Hawks topped

The North Harford Hawks were knocked off, 54-49, on Friday by Perry Hall in the consolation round of the Overlea Holiday Tournament.

Brock Hurley led the way for the Hawks, putting up 25 points and 13 rebounds. Nick Tittle had nine points in the loss, while teammate Madison Varvaris had eight rebounds.

In their opening-round contest on Thursday, the Hawks were beaten, 63-39, by host-team Overlea.

Tittle paced the Hawks' offense with 13 points and four assists. Hurley had nine points and 10 rebounds, while teammate Nic Hammer had seven points.

Mustangs split at tourney

The C. Milton Wright Mustangs took an 80-45 win over Chesapeake on Friday in the consolation round of the Franklin Invitational Tournament.

Leading the Mustangs was Connor Bays, who had 16 points. Corey Bays posted 14 points in the victory, while teammate Will Hazelton had 11 points and a team-high five steals.

CMW's Mychal Stefanides scored 12 points, and led the Mustangs with nine assists. Sam Hahner scored six points, and pulled down a team-best seven rebounds. Jamal Worthington scored eight points for CMW, while teammate Roby Appleby had five points. CMW's Marcus Sampson netted four points.

The Mustangs were beaten 58-46 in the opening round of the Franklin Invitational on Thursday.

Connor Bays had 17 points in the loss, while Stefanides posted 14 points and three steals. Corey Bays had seven points for the Mustangs, while Hazelton came through with four points and three assists. CMW's Brendan Degross led his team in rebounds with four.
