The North Harford boys basketball squad picked up its first Chesapeake (upper) Division victory Monday night, edging out the host-team C. Milton Wright Mustangs, 65-58.

"It was a phenomenal game, really," CMW head coach Jon Stefanides said. "I don't think either side went up much more than seven or eight points the whole time. We had a shot at taking this one, but North Harford just beat us inside and at the foul line."

Stefanides pointed out the Hawks' junior center, Brock Hurley, who scored 17 points in the victory, as the driving force behind North Harford coming away with a win.

"He did a great job inside," Stefanides said. "He made so many of our possessions a, 'one and done,' so we didn't get many second looks at the basket. We tried three different big men against him, and it just didn't work. We were able to stop their perimeter shooting pretty well, but he just killed us down low."

Pacing the Hawk offense in scoring was Rodney Barnett, who had 19 points. Nick Tittle scored 17 for the winning side, while teammate Madison Varvaris posted six points and Ryan Stinar five points.

Mychal Stefanides had 15 points to lead the Mustangs, while Will Hazelton had 12 points in the loss.

"In the first half, Will was playing the best, and in the second half it was Mychal," Stefanides said. "They both made some big shots and had some nice assists, so they were our strongest performers."

Kevin Dorsey scored 12 points for CMW, while Jamal Worthington had eight points and Logan Keys scored five.
