Led by Mychal Stefanides' season-best, 28-point performance, the C. Milton Wright Mustangs boys basketball team earned a Chesapeake (upper) Division victory Wednesday night, dispatching the visiting Elkton Golden Elks, 62-56.
The win put CMW at 8-4 overall for the season, and 2-4 in Chesapeake Division contests.
Will Hazelton scored 11 points and led the Mustangs in steals with eight, while teammate Corey Bays scored six points, and dished out a team-best four assists.
Jamal Worthington had five points for CMW, and Connor Bays paced CMW in rebounds with four. Sam Hahner and Alex Battaglia both scored four points for the Mustangs.
Joppatowne takes division lead
The Joppatowne Mariners earned an important Susquehanna (lower) Division victory Tuesday night, knocking off the host-team Perryville Panthers, 69-58.
With the victory, the Mariners (9-3 overall) improved to 6-0 in division contests and took sole possession of first place in the Susquehanna standings.
Leading the way for the Mariners Tuesday was Sir Nicolas Phillips, who put up 23 points and grabbed 14 rebounds. Markell Huggins had 15 points, five rebounds, four steals and three blocks in the victory, while Jermaine Head had 10 points, seven assists and five steals. Sean Tanner had eight points, while Matthew Jones netted seven. Keith Alexander led the Mariners in assists with eight.
Rams drop Cougars
The Edgewood Rams earned a Chesapeake (upper) Division victory on Tuesday night, dispatching the host-team Fallston Cougars, 59-39.
The victory put Edgewood at 9-3 overall, and 5-1 in upper-division play, while Fallston (3-9 overall) fell to 1-4 against Chesapeake foes.
Jaleel Gibson led the Rams in scoring with a 12-point effort, while also registering a pair of steals. Detrick Matthews had 10 points in the victory, while Kevin Ringgold had 10 points and a team-high six assists. Edgewood's Roderick Harrison notched eight points, four rebounds, two steals and two assists, while fellow Ram Lolami Charles came up with six points, two steals and a game-high 10 rebounds. Fortune Okigweh had six points, six rebounds and one assist for Edgewood. Lenier Tucker had four points and four rebounds in the win.
Fallston's John Makres paced the Fallston offense with a 14-point showing, while teammate Wyatt Alexander added 12 points to the Cougars' tally.
The Rams led Fallston, 28-18, at the halftime break.
Patterson Mill busts North Harford
The Patterson Mill boys won in Pylesville Tuesday evening, beating the North Harford Hawks, 50-31.
The victory put the Huskies at 8-3 overall and 5-0 in Chesapeake (upper) Division play. The Hawks fell to 4-9 overall and 1-4 against Chesapeake opponents.
Patterson Mill led the game, 28-12, at halftime.
Mike Reed scored a team-high 17 points in the victory, while Khalid Smith posted 12 points for the Huskies. Patterson Mill's Bryce Butler netted 11 points and Malik Bonds scored five.
Brock Hurley was responsible for more than half of the Hawks scoring output for the second game in a row, netting 17 points in the loss.
