The C. Milton Wright Mustangs overcame a slow start to their Wednesday-night, non-conference matchup against visiting Northwestern squad to win, 64-54.
The guests came hard out of the gates, starting the contest with 10 unanswered points, but the Mustangs clawed their way back to tie things at 11 by the end of the first quarter. In the second quarter, CMW outscored Northwestern 18-6 to take a 29-17 lead into the locker room at halftime.
Mychal Stefanides led the winning side with 19 points while grabbing a pair of steals. Matt Kline scored 13 points in the victory, while Kevin Dorsey had 10 points, two steals and grabbed a team-best eight rebounds. Will Hazelton posted six points and two steals and led the Mustangs in assists with six, while Ryan Walsh and Conner Bays both netted four points. Logan Keys and Sam Hahner each had three points for CMW.
Patterson Mill remains perfect
The undefeated Patterson Mill boys basketball overcame a halftime deficit to beat the visiting Joppatowne Mariners by three Tuesday night, 51-48, for a Susquehanna (lower) Division victory.
After two quarters of play, the Huskies, playing at home, trailed 25-24.
J.J. Butler scored 16 points to pace the Husky offense, while Garett Burkhead had 14 points. Mike Reed netted 13 points for Patterson Mill, which is 10-0 overall and 6-0 in Susquehanna Division contests.
Trevon Mosley scored 18 points and grabbed 17 rebounds to lead the Mariners (7-5 overall, 4-1 Susquehanna) in both categories, while Matthew Jones had nine points and three rebounds in the loss. Lavelle Banks scored nine points and racked up five rebounds for Joppatowne, while Markell Huggins posted five points and seven rebounds.
Tech tops Bo Manor
The Harford Tech Cobras (6-2 overall, 3-1 Susquehanna) came away with a home-court victory Tuesday night, picking off the Bo Manor Eagles, 78-67.
The hosts led 34-22 at the halftime break.
Isaiah Gills was Harford Tech's top contributor, scoring 29 points, pulling down 17 rebounds and nabbing five steals. Danny Crawford helped out the winning cause with 21 points, 10 rebounds and three steals, while Telvonne Lambert added 18 points, 11 assists and four steals.
Rams over Warriors
The Edgewood Rams (8-2 overall, 3-1 Chesapeake) earned their third straight upper-division win Tuesday with a 78-34 defeat of the visiting Havre de Grace Warriors (2-9 overall, 0-5 Chesapeake).
Maulvi Williams had a team-best 16 points for the Rams, while teammates Roderick Harrison and Thomas Dillard each had 10. Van Rolle scored eight points in the win, while Brandon Phillips netted seven.
Havre de Grace's Lavelle McCullers had 18 points and 12 rebounds in the loss.
Cougars edged by Elks
The Fallston Cougars, playing on their home court Tuesday night, suffered a two-point loss, as they were knocked off, 54-52, by the visiting Elkton squad.
Fallston (2-11 overall, 1-3 Chesapeake) was down 30-27 after two quarters of play.
