The North Harford Hawks won Monday's all-Harford County, post-season matchup, topping the visiting C. Milton Wright Mustangs, 6-0, in the quarterfinal round of the 3A North tournament.

The second-seeded Hawks were led by ace hurler Kevin Mooney, who struck out 10 and allowed just two hits over six innings to get the win. Cody Brittain took over on the mound in the seventh, holding the seventh-seeded Mustangs to one hit and preserving the shutout.

Mooney helped his own cause at the plate, belting a triple and driving in one run. Brittain led the Hawks lineup, going 3-for-3 with three RBIs, while teammate Brady Maguire was 2-for-2 with a pair of doubles and two runs.

Up 1-0 after two innings, the Hawks added four tallies in the third, then closed out scoring for the day with one run in the fourth.

Fallston out in 2nd round

The Fallston Cougars, playing on the road Monday afternoon as the fourth seed in the Class 2A East District VII Sectional semifinal, lost, 7-2, to top-seeded host Rising Sun.

In their opening-round contest Friday, the Cougars dropped visiting fifth seed, Edgewood, 5-2.

The Cougars dropped four runs in the second inning, then pushed their final run across in the fifth. Edgewood's two runs were scored in the sixth.

Fallston starter John Hetterman went the distance, striking out eight, walking three and holding the Rams to five hits.

Brett Kowalewski ripped a home run for the Cougars.

Game washed out

Monday's Class 2A East District VII Sectional semifinal between Patterson Mill and Harford Tech was postponed because of rain, and was scheduled to be played at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Harford Tech. For the results of that game, check

Mustangs rip Eagles

The seventh-seed Mustangs advanced to the quarterfinals with a 13-1 victory over 10th seed Aberdeen. Playing at home Friday in the first round of the 3A North regional tournament, the Mustangs scored once in the opening inning, then plated six in both the second and third innings. Aberdeen's only run came in the fourth. The game was halted after five innings under the 10-run mercy rule.

Aberdeen's Austin Smith was 1-for-2 with one run scored, while Virgil Kennedy had one RBI in the loss.

Huskies top North East

In 2A East District VII first-round action Friday, the sixth seed Patterson Mill Huskies earned a 4-1 victory over third-seed host North East.

The Huskies plated all the runs they would need in the first inning, scoring three times before the Indians could get three outs. Both teams notched one run in the fifth inning.

Matt Golczewski tossed a complete game for the Huskies, striking out eight, walking five and holding the Indians to one earned run on four hits.

The Huskies' top hitter was Alex Abild, who went 1-for-2 with two RBIs and two walks.
