Harford Tech wins twice at own tourney
The Harford Tech Cobras, who hosted the fourth annual Ken Culver Classic Baseball Tournament on Tuesday, wound up taking top honors at the event with a pair of victories.
The tournament was started in 2010 to honor Culver, an assistant coach with the Cobras who was stricken by cancer. This year's event was to include the hosts, Patterson Mill, Howard and Calvert. Because of scheduling conflicts, Calvert withdrew from the tournament.
The Cobras first game of the afternoon turned out to be a barn burner, as Harford Tech rallied for a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh to take a 12-11 win over Patterson Mill.
Travis Hash was 3-for-4 with two doubles in the victory, while Kyle Zentkovich was 2-for-5 with a game-best five RBIs.
Zentkovich was also the game's winning pitcher, closing out the contest for the Cobras with a three-inning relief stint.
Patterson Mill's Matt Elliott was 2-for-4, while teammate Griffin Marge was 1-for-3. Blaine Sheesley was 1-for-4 with a double in the loss.
Harford Tech's second game saw the Cobras top Howard, 7-5.
Nick Waite was 2-for-4 with a double and a triple, while Zentkovich was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. The Cobras Tim Hildebrand was 1-for-2 with a home run and two RBIs.
Cobra relief pitcher Ryan Horseman worked through three innings to earn the win.
