Celebrating senior night Friday, Patterson Mill defeated visiting C. Milton Wright, 43-31, in UCBAC dual meet wrestling action.
The Huskies win was anchored by a handful of pins. Patterson Mill pinners were Jason Noss, 132 pounds; Brian Chalmers, 138; Thomas Trzeciak, 145; Corey Myers, 195; and Connor McLeod, 285.
Also picking up wins were Jake Nikkila, 126; Nick Roney, 152; and Tyler Mackenchnie, 182.
CMW also had its share of pins from Nick Dimattia, 113; Michael Zito, 120; Philip Flint, 160; and Ty Rochester, 220. Michael Ritz, 106, and Doug Their, 171, also picked up wins for the Mustangs.
Patriots win tourney
Despite Saturday morning's ice and snow issues, John Carroll ventured to Octoraro High School in Atglen, Pa., to win its first tournament out of the borders of Maryland.
The weather-altered event was reduced to a six-team round robin Octoraro Invitational in which John Carroll managed to finish 90 points ahead of the field. John Carroll racked up 199 points to best the other five Pennsylvania schools. Wallenpaupack of Hawley was second with 109 and Upper Moreland of Willow Grove was third with 106. Neshaminy of Langhorne was fourth with 100 and Penncrest of Middletown Township was fifth with 88.5. Host Octoraro rounded out the field with 65.
Individually, the Patriots crowned four champions, Devin Davis, 113; George Weber, 145; Chris Almony, 152; and Hunter Ritter, 160. Other finalists were Steven Jernigan, 120; Scott Strappelli, 138; and Rapheal Oduok, 220.
Zach Dwyer was third at 106 and Jay Etkins was third at 182. Artie Milner, 126, and Chris Scott, 132, each placed fourth.
A night earlier the Patriots traveled to North East, where JV and varsity wrestlers combined to beat the Indians, 57-15, and Perryville, 55-21, in a tri-meet.
In the win over Perryville, CJ Skokowski, 106; Mark Pickett, 113; Almony, 145; Ben Swanson, 152; Ritter, 170; Dan Kelble, 195; Oduok, 220; and Chris Truitt, 285, each won by pin. Strappelli won a 14-3 major decision at 138 and Zach Donato won 5-2 at 160.
The Patriots also got a number of falls against North East. Picking up the pins were Picket, 113; Almony, 145; Swanson, 152; Rob Stahl, 170; Ryan Etkins, 182; Kelble, 195; and Truitt, 285.
Skokowski added a 4-0 decision at 106 and Strappelli won 5-0 at 138. Donato needed overtime to win 5-2 at 160.
Cougars sweep tri-meet
Fallston picked up a pair of wins Friday in a tri-meet at Edgewood that included North Harford. The Cougars beat the Rams, 57-24, and the Hawks, 51-24. North Harford defeated Edgewood, 41-36.
Leading the Cougars with double wins were Joe Medicus, 106; Will Shipley, 126; Zach Cullison, 132; CJ Austin, 152; Mike Owens, 160; Austin Rutkowski, 182; and Ridge Myers, 220.
North Harford and Edgewood each had two wrestlers with double wins. Leading the Hawks were Jordan Avig, 113, and Logan Smith, 138. Edgewood's two double winners were Noel Spencer, 120, and Darryl Metz, 170.
Cobras lose two
Harford Tech was on the short end of a tri-meet with Howard County opponents, Oakland Mills and Hammond, on Friday. The Cobras fell to Hammond, 52-24, and to Oakland Mills, but score and results were not made available by press time.
In the loss to Hammond the Cobras won five bouts. Tyler Granese, 120, and Tommy Butler, 145, were winners by pin, as was Nathan Cook at 182. Dillon Brush, 195, and Will Hughes, 285, won 12-5 and 1-0 decisions, respectively.Copyright © 2015, The Baltimore Sun
