Fallston beats John Carroll, Tech drops Elkton in girls soccer Monday; playoff draws set

Girls soccer teams from Harford Tech and Fallston were both in action Monday night, with each hosting and winning in their final regular season contests.

Harford Tech (5-1 league, 8-3 overall) shut out Elkton, 4-0, in UCBAC Susquehanna (lower) Division action, while Fallston (8-2-2) knocked off John Carroll, 5-1, in a non-league contest.

At Fallston, John Carroll (9-5-1) broke on top on Nicole Wojcik's goal in the first 10 minutes of play. Fallston, though, scored the next five, including two in the first half for a 2-1 halftime lead.

Brooke Nigrin's unassisted goal tied the score and Sam Gasior put the Cougars ahead with an assist from Eren Propheter.

In the second half, Mary Beth Esposito tallied unassisted, followed by a Beth Walton goal, assisted by Esposito. Sierrah Taylor added the Cougars final goal, also unassisted.

Cougars goalie Kayla Reilly finished with six saves, while John Carroll played two keepers. Susan Cumpston recorded six saves and Andrea Sipos made two saves.

At Tech, the Cobras scored a pair of goals in each half. Goals were scored by Kaitlyn Vane, Dana Waskiewicz, Jamie Surock and Kersten O'Brien. Earning assists were Madison Riley, Kaitlyn Vane and two by Shannon Conlon.

Tech's keeper Megan Freeman had six saves and Elkton goalie Justine Palmer had 14 saves.

Patriots tie NDP Friday

John Carroll, playing its final regular season home game on Friday, battled Notre Dame Prep to a scoreless tie in IAAM A Conference play. John Carroll lost at NDP, 1-0, in a previous meeting.

John Carroll will be the second seed from the IAAM A Conference's Red Division in the IAAM Tournament which starts Oct. 29. The Patriots will host Bryn Mawr.

Region playoff brackets

All nine Harford County teams (Joppatowne is not participating) were given their region playoff draw information Monday. Seven of the nine will be play first-round games, set for Friday.

All Harford teams in Class 3A North bracket will play Friday, all at home. North Harford will host Patterson of Baltimore, while C. Milton Wright will host Milford Mill. Aberdeen will host Parkville and Bel Air will host Hereford.

In 2A East play, Edgewood drew a top seed and bye into the quarterfinal round set for Tuesday.

Harford Tech will host Rising Sun in first-round action Friday and the winner plays at Edgewood.

Also in 2A East, Patterson Mill visits Elkton Friday and Fallston travels to North East Thursday for first-round play.

Havre de Grace, the lone 1A North entry, will play in Tuesday's quarterfinal round. The Warriors will travel to Western STES.

Quarterfinal winners will play in the semifinal round, slated for Nov. 2.
