North Harford and Aberdeen began their UCBAC Chesapeake Division girls soccer schedule Monday afternoon with a head-to-head game in Aberdeen. The Hawks (1-0 league, 5-1 overall) scored a goal in each half en route to a 2-0 win.
Aberdeen's (0-1, 2-3) defense gave the Hawks trouble in the early going, but North Harford finally broke through 22 minutes into the first half when halfback Alison Beers pushed a ball away from a defender and into the path of halfback Meghan Root, who hit a hard rising shot about 20 yards out that found the upper half of the goal, just out of the reach of Eagles goalie Lisa Eller.
The Hawks scored again, early in the second half, on a rush down the right side by Leah Monticello, who beat three defenders, before passing the ball to an unmarked Tessa Mirjafary, who calmly placed the ball into the far left side of the goal.
North Harford goalie Haley Jacobs recorded the shutout with three saves, while Eller had nine saves for the Eagles.
Rams beat Eagles
Edgewood (1-0, 4-1) won its Susquehanna opener Monday at home, beating Bo Manor, 7-2. The Rams led at the half, 7-0.
Sydney Watson and Abigail Olah scored two goals apiece to pace the Rams. Single goals were scored by Caitlin Rankin, Ladae Boykin and Tashira Wilson.
Caitlin Rankin and Alex Van Grafeiland each had two assists, while Alyssa Rankin, Olah and Boykin also had assists.
Cobras blank Mariners
Harford Tech (2-0, 4-1) won its second Susquehanna game Monday, winning 9-0 at Joppatowne (0-1, 0-4). The Cobras led at the half, 2-0.
Tech scoring was led by Allison Piercy's two goals. Single goals were scored by Kara Hayward, Michaela Postowski, Julianna Kuessner, Tori Arcilesi, Kalei Britton, Emily Doleschal and Azalee Emmel.
Assists were credited to Hayward, Piercy, Kamryn Henderson, Postowski, Kuessner and Arcilesi.
Tech goalie Bryana Weston-Wyatt made one save.
Warriors get first win
Havre de Grace (1-1, 1-4) earned its first win Monday night on its own turf, nipping rival Perryville (0-1, 1-1), 1-0.
Rachel Rossi tallied the game's only goal, unassisted in the second half. Warriors goalie Riley Arnold recorded the shutout with 12 saves. Perryville keeper Alison Watson had 18 saves.
Tigers edge Bobcats
Rising Sun defeated Bel Air (0-1, 0-4) in a Chesapeake opener for both. The Tigers netted the game-winner in the second half.
Bel Air goalie Karlie Scherba made just one save, while Rising Sun keeper Madison Smith made 19 saves.
