C. Milton Wright goes to 2-0 in girls soccer; Patterson Mill, Edgewood, Fallston win, too

The C. Milton Wright Mustangs girls soccer team moved to 2-0 Wednesday after a 4-0 shutout of host Maryvale.

The Mustangs led at the half, 2-0, on goals from Sarah Piazza and Megan Frailer. Angela Kuhn and Frailer added goals in the second half. Kuhn, Alyssa Austen and Kathy Kammerer each had assists.

CMW keeper Stacy Venanzi recorded one save and Maryvale goalie Darcy Wood finished with 19 saves.

Warriors lose to Tigers

The Havre de Grace Warriors opened their season Wednesday with a tough 3-1 loss to visiting Rising Sun, last year's UCBAC Susquehanna Division champions.

Rising Sun scored two goals in the final 13 minutes of the first half and then added a third goal midway through the second half for a 3-0 lead.

Havre de Grace avoided the shutout on Helen Boniface's unassisted goal later in the second half. Warriors goalie Riley Arnold had a solid game in goal with 18 saves.

Tech rolls over Joppatowne

Harford Tech defeated host Joppatowne, 8-0, Wednesday in the season opener for both schools.

Huskies roll

Patterson Mill improved its record to 2-0 in girls soccer action Tuesday, shutting out host Elkton, 9-0. Edgewood and Fallston also won shutouts.

The Huskies used goals from seven different players en route to their second straight shutout.

Jenna Staton and Marissa James highlighted the scoring with two goals each, while single goals were netted by Gabby Samra, Amy Bednarek, Lauren Dick, Sam Wuerfl and Peyton Marge.

Seven players also had assists, led by Ramona Schueler's two. Single assists were credited to Logenn Schoen, Alexis Findley, Staton, James, Brittie Andrews and Marge.

Goalies Stephanie Ehly and Erin Angelini each made one save in combining for the shutout. Elkton keeper Justine Palmer recorded 12 saves.

Cougars open with win

Fallston opened its season with a win Tuesday, venturing to Howard County and returning with a 3-0 victory over Mt. Hebron.

Cougar goals were scored by Brooke Nigrin, Logan Gasior and Megan Shock. Lauren Woollen had both Fallston assists. Cougars goalie Kayla Reilly earned the shutout with nine saves.

Rams blank City

Edgewood also opened its season Tuesday with a win, blanking visiting City College, 7-0.
