Patriots get first win, then lose two
The John Carroll Patriots lost their second game in as many days Saturday morning falling to Stonewall Jackson 53-26 in the Beast of the East Showcase in Baltimore. Yemaya Johnson had 10 points, providing most of the offense for the seemingly slumbering Patriots who made just seven field goals for the game.
Johnson led all Patriot scorers on Friday night as well, but the Patriots were beaten at Pallotti, 54-46. Johnson finished with 16 points, while Sam Clarke and Ashley Hunter had nine points each in the loss.
The Patriots rebounded from their season opening loss with a 40-37 win over IAAM A Conference foe Mercy last Wednesday.
The host Patriots fell behind early after getting into foul trouble but held the Magic scoreless in the second period to tie the game at 14 at the half.
John Carroll took command in the third quarter, only to see Mercy make a charge at the end that fell short. John Carroll's leading scorer, Johnson, sat this one out with Achilles tendinitis. The Patriots were led by sophomore center Hunter, who powered in 10 points for the victors.
