Patterson Mill closed out Week Four of the Harford County high school football season with a 20-0 loss at Perryville Monday night in a game postponed by Friday's torrential rain.
The unbeaten Huskies went into their game with unbeaten Perryville having won their three games despite scoring just 39 points and Monday was worse without a single point added to those previous 39.
With the defeat, Patterson Mill, one of five unbeaten UCBAC teams before Week Four, fell to 3-1 Perryville went to 4-0.
The Huskies allowed their first touchdown in the opening quarter when Perryville's Joe Peaker scored on a 10-yard run. Perryville's next score came in the third quarter when Brian Matthews caught an 18-yard touchdown pass from Gabe Sherrod. The Panthers closed the scoring in the fourth quarter, with Peaker rushing for his second touchdown.
While trailing, 14-0, in the second half, the Huskies saw their last possession of the third quarter and their of the fourth quarter end on turnovers. First, Deonte Alston lost a fumble. And then, Luke DePasquale had a pass intercepted.
During Perryville's first possession of the third quarter, the Huskies' Justin Palmer recovered a fumble by Peaker, but then Patterson Mill's moved the ball just two yards.
Patterson Mill hosts Bo Manor at 7 p.m. Friday at 7 p.m.
FALLSTON beats BEL AIR
Fallston made the short trip to Bel Air Friday, scored 21 points in the first half and beat the Bobcats, 21-14, on a rainy, dreary evening for Friday Night Football for Harford County's high school teams..
Aberdeen, Havre de Grace and North Harford were other winners Friday night. Patterson Mill was rained out and will play at Perryville at 6 p.m. Monday.
Fallston's John Hetterman didn't let the rain bother him in the first quarter as he threw a 53-yard pass to Ryan Umpleby for a first quarter touchdown. John Eichelberger followed with the first of his three kicks for extra points.
Marc Badger took over in the second quarter when Fallston went to the running game. Badger scored a 7-yard touchdown and a 5-yard touchdown.
For Fallston offensively, Hetterman completed five of his 10 passes for 103 yards and the touchdown without throwing an interception. Umpleby caught 3 passes for 91 yards, including the touchdown. Chris Rose had a catch for 12 yards. Umpleby also had an interception that he returned for only a yard. Bryan Jirsa also had an interception that he returned for 15 yards.
Defensively for the Cougars, Connor Davis had 11 tackles, 3 assists and a blocked punt. Harrison Stone had 9 tackles and 4 assists, Sean Lewns had 10 tackles and 3 assists; Rose had 5 tackles and 4 assists; and Umpleby had 6 tackles and 2 assists. Mike Owens punted 4 times for 130 yards and a net average of 32.5 yards per punt.
Bel Air's scoring information and statistics were not readily available.
HAVRE DE GRACE beats C. MILTON WRIGHT
On the rain soaked Astroturf at James R. Harris Stadium, Havre de Grace splashed its way to an 8-0 win over visiting C. Milton Wright in an UCBAC Chesapeake Division opener for both teams.
The game in Havre de Grace, played in a steady rain that at times was a downpour, put Havre de Grace at 3-1 on the season and CMW at 2-2. The only points were scored in the opening minutes of the second quarter.
From their own 25 after a change of possession with 11 minutes left in the half, the Warriors gained one yard on a Cameron Doe run. On the next snap, quarterback Lavell McCullers tossed a short wing pass to James Smith. Smith caught the pass moving left and continued left along the Mustangs sideline.
A key block at the Havre de Grace 40-yard line sprung Smith around the corner. Smith then outran the nearest CMW defenders on his way to a 74-yard touchdown reception.
