The Bel Air Bobcats field hockey team earned a season opening victory Friday, blanking host Perryville 1-0.
C. Milton Wright, Joppatowne and Fallston also won their first games of the season, while Patterson Mill dropped its opener.
The lone goal in the Bel Air game was netted by Bel Air's Taylor Burrier in the first half with 13:56 remaining. The goal was unassisted.
Bel Air goalie Savannah Garcia had nine saves to earn the win.
Mustangs start with OT win
C. Milton Wright defeated host Dulaney Friday, 2-1, in overtime.
CMW open the scoring with an unassisted goal by sophomore midfielder Sabrina Rhodes. Dulaney pulled even by halftime, scoring without time on the clock after a series of penalty corners.
The game remained tied until less than two minutes left in the 10-minute extra period, when junior Maggie Gallagher drilled a ball into the cage off an assist from Emily Jachelski.
Sophomore goalkeeper Sydney Rhodes is credited with five saves. Rhodes, along with CMW defenders Riley Williams, Emilee Halley and Shannon Rogers, thwarted 14 of the 15 penalty corners against CMW.
Dulaney was one of two teams to beat CMW during regular season play in 2011.
Mariners beat Rams
Joppatowne also picked up a win Friday, beating visiting Edgewood, 3-1. The Mariners led 2-0 at the half.
Scoring both first half Joppatowne goals for the Mariners was Deja Turner. The final goal was tallied off a penalty corner by Christina Miller. Ashley Martinez had one assist and goalie April Kinyua had two saves.
Edgewood avoided the shutout on a Morgan Williams goal with 47 seconds left to play. Meagan Jorge had the assist. Rams goalie Lissette Yeargain had 10 saves.
Cougars get win
Fallston posted a win as well, shutting out visiting Francis Scott Key, 4-0, Friday. All goals were scored in the first half.
Sophomore Elizabeth Hebert had three goals and Jenna Caldwell had one. Lindsay Summers, Bailey Graf and Nicole McDiarmid each had assists.
Fallston outshot the visitors 33-2. Cougars keeper Sarah Dimaggio had one save.
Huskies fall in opener
Patterson Mill lost its opener Friday to visiting River Hill, 2-1. Scoring the Huskies lone goal was Julie Sibbesen, assisted by Alex Lebovic.
Kat Varga scored River Hill's two goals.
Huskies goalie Maddie Hedrick had eight saves.
Hawks lose, too
North Harford also lost in its season opener at Hereford Friday, 3-0. Hereford led 1-0 at the half.
